This iMac was brought to us with the usual issues from a Mac of this age. The user reported that it was running very slow and the fans were loud. They wanted to know if they should spend the money to replace it or was there something that could be done to bring it back to life.
The price of a new iMac could range from $1200 to well over $2000 for a top of the line machine. The truth is that most people don’t need the latest and greatest Mac to do the things they need to do on a computer.
We were able to replace the old and worn out spinning hard drive with a new super fast SSD drive. This new drive is 10x faster than the old drive and runs considerably cooler and quieter. We also took the opportunity to clean the fans and vents to ensure that everything was cooling properly.
We were able to clone the old drive over to the new SSD so the only difference the user saw was the tremendous speed increase. All their files and programs were exactly as they were before the upgrade.
The end result was an iMac that actually ran faster, quieter and cooler than it did when it was new out of the box. It was taking over 5 mins for it to boot up to the desktop before the upgrade. After the upgrade it was ready to go in under 30 seconds and applications responded almost immediately when clicked.
